Accessibility
Surveys
MCIL has been
conducting surveys of residential, commercial, community, educational
and government properties for ADA compliance since 1993. The
surveys are performed using formal assessment tools and the ADAAG
(Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines).
All surveys begin
with the path of travel from the parking lot/transit stop into the
facility. Once inside, the survey includes getting around
the building, accessing its goods and services and using any other
amenities available to an individual.
Compliance surveys
may be performed on any of three levels. The first, easiest
and least expensive is a walk-thru of the facility. MCIL notes
problematic areas and makes recommendations for accessibility compliance.
The facility, on tour with MCIL, takes notes.
The second level
involves MCIL making a more thorough survey including a narrative
report. Recommendations are given for each area that needs
to achieve compliance.
The third level
involves a comprehensive survey, detailing the entire facility.
This survey includes a formal report that lists the barriers and
various solutions. Recommendations are given in priority order.
MCIL's compliance
surveys are conducted from the perspective of a person with a disability.
While the surveys are conducted to assist the facility achieve full
compliance standards, we can also make recommendations that go beyond
the letter of the law to achieve a functional, practical application
of accessibility .

Braille
Embossing
MCIL can Braille
written text for business, schools and government organizations.
Certain items, such as meeting agendas and minutes, can be put into
Braille and sent the same day. Annual and periodic reports, articles,
pamphlets, brochures, promotional information and other materials
can be easily put into Braille. In addition, restaurant menus,
hotel information and other material that periodically requires
updates can be saved by MCIL, modified as needed and on demand put
into Braille.
Teachers in schools,
colleges and universities can have lesson plans, handouts, homework
assignments, tests and math and accounting work put into Braille.
MCIL uses Nemeth software to put math into Braille. We are unable
to produce large volume work such as text books; however, MCIL can
produce audio tapes of books, as a reasonable accommodation, in
lieu of Braille.
MCIL's rates
are $35 for initial set up and $1.00/Braille page. Depending on
the request and for an additional charge, MCIL can bind and cover
the Braille document to produce a truly professional and quality
product.

of situations. Training areas are customized to
the audience and can be from one hour to several days in duration.
Training can
be geared, for example, to businesses which cater to the public,
